A Way to Honor Your Mother and/or Father

I really do not know if every country sets aside one day a year to honor a person’s mother and/or father.

A tip to have candles burn longer and drop less– Out the candles in your freezer. Leave them in there until the morning of the day or night you will use it. Always let candle come to room temperature especially if they are in a glass container. I can tell you first hand if you light the candle, especially any size pillar or one in a glass container, they will explode. I had a few blisters on my face and eyelids from a regular, non-empowered ritual, candle exploding and the wax was very difficult to get out of my couch and rug. Please keep in mind safety first When using any size or shape candle for any reason.

Even though mine crossed the veil almost 4 years ago I still honor her daily not just in a day gift card companies, flower and sweet shops say we should. My mom’s favorite colors were green and blue and as I sometimes make poured candles I make twelve 1 1/2 inch in diameter and about 4 to 5 inch tall candles in layers of different shades of blue and green usually on her birthday in December. Then I use one candle per month. On the first of each month I take the used candle out of the glass I had from a long burning candle. I have a plastic resealable bag I use for these pieces, I’ll explain later what I do with them. Before I put the new candle in I carve a memory of something my mom and I did together or something she had said to me or whatever I feel should go on it. I use different alphabets and/or drawings to do this. I then give the candle 3 small spritzes of her favorite scent while saying, “Blood to blood mom I honor you, Blood to blood mom I miss you, Blood to blood mom I love you. ” I say this every day when I might the candle and I spend a few minutes in a type of meditation thinking about what I write on the candle for that month which usually brings back other memories. When I’m done with my meditation, which usually 10 to 15 minutes I know out the candle for the day.

My dad’s favorite colors were a certain shade of blue worn by his favorite baseball team and a bright red wine by his favorite hockey team. I make his candles on his birthday in March the same way I make my mom’s I follow the same exact ritual for him as I do daily for my.mom. The only differences is I spritz the candle with his favorite after shave and substitute “dad” for “mom” in the short chant.

If you do not make candles go to a hobby store or most any kind of department store and buy the two candles that calls to you. If you would rather make it buy candles that will last longer than one month that’s fine. If doing this still spritz every month while using the appropriate chant or chants for mother and/or father. Thank use a different piece of paper every month that is small enough not to hang out of the edges of whatever is holding the candle. Use the present months candle to burn the paper from last month.

Any questions please ask before attempting to do this ritual.

The need for More Than One Candle Holder and Why You Need Different Sizes

A little know fact about the misuse of the name candle holders. My mother was an avid collector of “candle holders” and did some reserched about them. Come to find out through her research that they proper name for them is “candle sticks” not “candle holders.”

If you would link to read a little history about this definition for candlesticks please click on this link: Candlestick

As Witches/Pagans, we use candles for a large variety of things. From holding our person candle and the element of Fire’s candle to those used for a specific purpose in a spell and/or ritual. We also use different sizes depending on how long we want or need the candle to burn for the spell thus the need for multiple candlesticks in different sizes.

You should have at least 2 candlesticks that a taper candle will fit into. 1-7 candlesticks for chime size candles. 1-2 for tea light or votive candles. Again I send you to look at garage or yard sales and thrift shops if you are like me and cannot afford to spend a lot on all the different holders.

Magickal Color Correspondence

There are many ways to use color in magick. Here are just a few examples:
  • You can choose clothing, altar cloths, and candles in colors associated with the intent of your spell or ritual.
  • You can write spells, incantations, talismans, and sigils using ink or colored pencils in colors corresponding to the magick you are working.
  • When meditating, you can envision yourself surrounded by light in a color associated with your purpose.
The correspondence table below describes the magickal properties associated with a variety of colors.

Colors play an important role in our lives and even when we do creative work or meditate, we can lend distinctive vibrations and focus our intentions better through the burning of different colored candles. Indeed; candle “magick” is an important and much studied science and art (which many feel, wrongly, is associated with black magic or witchcraft).

CANDLE MAGIC

1 One of the simplest of magical arts which comes under
the heading of natural magic is candle burning. It is simple
because it employs little ritual and few ceremonial
artifacts. The theatrical props of candle magic can be
purchased at any department store and its rituals can be
practiced in any sitting room or bedroom.

2 Most of us have performed our first act of candle magic
by the time we are two years old. Blowing out the tiny
candles on our first birthday cake and making a wish is pure
magic. This childhood custom is based on the three magical
principals of concentration, will power and visualization.
In simple terms, the child who wants his wish to come true
has to concentrate (blow out the candles), visualize the end
result (make a wish) and hope that it will come true( will
          power).

Witchcraft Terms and Tools – Candles

Candles are widely used in Wicca and related forms of Paganism and Neopaganism, as they are in many other religions. Consecrated candles are frequently used on the altar to represent the presence of the God and Goddess, and in the four corners of a ritual circle to represent the presence of the four classical elements: Fire, Earth, Air and Water. Candles are burned at all ceremonies, and the lighting and extinguishing of candles often marks the opening and closing of the ritual.

A candle can be consecrated and charged with magical energy by cleansing it and anointing it with a small amount of oil during the waxing phase of the moon. The candle can also be carved or painted with appropriate magical symbols to further empower the candles with those energies.

CANDLE MAGIC

Candle magic is an ancient art and it is the most widely used magic practiced today. The candle itself is a very powerful magical tool it contains all the basic elements earth, wind, fire and water, earth is represented in the wax, water the melted wax, the flame fire and the air is the smoke. The colour of the candles is very important as the different colours will bring with it its own energy and power, green for healing, red for empowerment etc. Each of the elements has with it its own single coloured candle, green for earth, yellow for air, blue is for water and red is for fire. The different colours also represent either a yin female or yang male energy, yellow is yin, green is yang, blue is yin and red is yang.
A candle is believed to have its own vibration and can be used in meditation and divination, pink or violet is a calm and soft light where as red is strong and powerful, when a candle is lit its colour is released into the surrounding area which will bring a nice energy into the room. If during your ritual you need a lot of power, light multiple candles. By rubbing oil over a candle before your ritual this will charge the candle with your own personal energy.
