Salt has an increduble ability to absorb negative energy.
It has been used throughout different cultures and across time for this very purpose.
A salt bowl is a wonderful way to ensure a peaceful and relaxing environment.
Choose a Bowl
I love copper, it’s a great conductor. You can choose any natural material you like and even reserve that bowl purely for that purpose.
Choose a Salt
I have chosen Black Sea salt from Crete and Murray River Sea salt from Australia. The choice of salt is endless.
Adding Herbs and Oils
You can add protective herbs and oils, I have chosen Juniper berrys both the berry and the oil, rosemary, both the herb and the oil, peppercorns and cloves. Once again the choice is yours.
The essential oils make such a beautiful addition to the atmosphere!
Set your Intentions
When making the salt mix, set your intentions. I set my intentions for harmony, banish negativity and protection.
Place the bowl where you feel the energy needs to settle or where you may need protection.
People often place this over a fireplace, front or back door. Mine sits in the front room of my home. It works well in high traffic areas of the home or even a business.
What to Consider
As this is the salt used to absorb the negativity it is important that you:
- Keep it away from pets and children
- When the energy of the salt doesn’t feel clean anymore get rid if it.
- Get rid of the salt by disposing it where you don’t want plants to sprout like in between the cracks of the concrete. In time the earth will neutralise this energy.
We all have days we wish we could just hibernate and hide from everyone. This is when you need to have a special care package ready to go to relax you physically and mentally and recenter yourself spiritually.
I have a small kit made up in advance for when I take this me time. Mine includes a long incense sticks or cones of either sandalwood or jasmine (lavender is also very good for relaxing with), my favorite Celtic music bookmarked on my computer to find it easier, a big handful of my favorite Epsom salts in a Ziploc type bag or other holder, a smudge stick, a bar of scents soap, a black taper and a white taper candle, my favorite lotion, and a robe (type depends on the temperature in my home). I also shut off my cell/mobile phone and anything else that someone could call me on like Skype.
Allow a minimum of 2 hours for yourself to get the benefits you deserve.
I do a smudging in my den and bathroom and also myself. Then get into my usually hot bath with the salts. I soak for a while until I feel my muscles completely relax m(draining cooled water and adding more hot if I feel the need to) than I use one of my scented soaps to wash with (my hair is tied up because I wash it in the sink before getting into my bath or just leave dry, no one says you have to wash your hair just because you take a bath). After getting out of the bath and drying off I rub lotion on every part of my body I can comfortably reach just to feel the wonder of what the deities choose to make us into thousands of years ago.
Then if I feel like it put on my robe and go into my den or bedroom. Depending on my mood whether I stay in the robe or lay down skyclad.
Once in my den or bedroom, I have a small table next to the daybed in my den so the black candle is set on the southwest corner and the white in the northeast. I light the black candle first asking Hades and Persephone to take away all the negative energy, anger, resentment, envy, etc I may still be harboring inside myself. Next, I light the white candle asking Ra and Mother Earth to fill me with love, positive energy and to be grounded. I then light the incense I choose while enjoying the scent of the incense and listening to the music I do a relaxation technique (which I will describe below) and then I let my mind to float free not focusing on any one thought especially if it is a negative one. I usually wind up falling asleep and many times have had messages and/or vision brought to me by my ancestors, guides, some deities. These dreams I write down what I can remember of them when I awaken. The dreaming does not happen every time.
The two most important things to take away from this experience is one does not feel guilty for taking the time to pamper and nurture yourself because we all need to. The other thing is to take a is relaxed, centered mind, body, and spirit from reconnecting them all.
RELATION TECHNIQUE: Starting with your toes and working up the body tighten each muscle as you take as deep a breath as you can then allow the muscle to completely relax as you slowly exhale all the air you took in. This should take you at least 15 to 20 minutes to get all your muscles relaxed and your mind to slow down.
Smudging is usually done with White Sage and Sweetgrass combination this way is more of a NAtive American tradition. You can use White Sage by itself which is more of a witch’s way of doing it The White Sage takes all the negative energy out of your home and yourself and the Sweet Grass bring positive energy back into your home. If you do not use the Sweetgrass that is fine but be sure to ask for love, harmony, and positive energy to fill each room after you have cleared the negative energy from it.
To smudge yourself either start at your feet or head, depending on what feels right to you, WHile bring the smudge stick up or down your body ask Hekate to cleanse you of all negative energy, anger, resentment, and whatever else negative you feel you may be holding on to. Then ask her to fill you with positive energy, love, harmony, happiness, and whatever other good things you want to bring into yourself. When you clear negative energy out of you, you leave an empty space that needs to be filled so that is why you ask for positive things to fill you up.
To smudge your home starting in the room that has the door people go in and out of the most you walk counterclockwise making sure you get some of the smoke from the smudge stick into every corner of the room saying “Hekate (you can also call upon your patron god and matron goddess to help you) “Cleanse this room of all negativity, anger, and whatever other kinds of bad energy you may feel is in the room.” To continue cleansing room home go through it room by room counterclockwise stating the same thing you did in the first room. You also cleanse around every window, the in between where you walk through to another room or if the is a doorway, cleanse any mirrors, electronic devices that are in your home, your phone landlines and cell/mobile phones, computers, tablets, etc., inside closets and cabinets, if you have a basement and/or attic cleanse those also and last but not least any photographs you have on display anywhere in your home especially those of family and friends.
After doing this complete cleansing you follow it up with a house blessing and then put protection around your home and property. How to do these things can be found in other posts here on Coven Life’s website.
Hello everyone, sorry for the lack of posts we have had some unseasonably warm weather and I have been taking advantage of it. Before the next snow storm hits of course.
We have started doing some refreshing in parts of the house, little cracks here, little cracks there, knicks, bumps, dents and gaps in the trim work from the varying temps all that fun stuff. Easy stuff to do, but more tolerable when the sun is shining, birds are singing and you can crack open the windows a bit.
